Why we picked it
There are two Riu resorts side by side at Punta Cancún, both adults-only, and picking between them is most of the decision. Las Americas is the Palace one — Riu's upper tier — and it's the smaller and quieter of the pair at 372 junior suites and suites. If you want the Riu all-inclusive machine without the scale and the nightclub, this is that.
The location is the same one that makes this end of the strip worth paying for. Km 8.5 sits on the north-facing bay side of Punta Cancún, behind the headland, which means calm swimmable water and — the part nobody advertises — one of the better sargassum positions in Cancún.
Everything runs 24 hours: all-inclusive service around the clock, room service, stocked minibars and the in-room liquor dispensers Riu is known for. Three outdoor pools, seven restaurants and a full-service spa. It is a well-run, unpretentious upper-tier all-inclusive rather than a design statement.

Where it sits on the Hotel Zone
Kukulcán
Las Americas sits at Km 8.5, immediately west of Punta Cancún — the corner where the Hotel Zone stops running east along Bahía de Mujeres and turns south down the open Caribbean. It is on the north side of that corner, which is the whole point: sheltered by the headland and by Isla Mujeres across the bay, the water in front of it is calm rather than surf.
It is also the best-connected stretch on the strip. The Punta Cancún cluster — Coco Bongo, Forum by the Sea, Plaza Caracol and the Convention Center — is a short walk. Hotel Riu Cancún is literally next door at Km 9. The airport runs roughly 20–25 minutes.
Sargassum exposure
Las Americas sits on the protected north side of Punta Cancún, tucked behind the headland — so the Atlantic rafts that pile onto the east-facing beaches through peak season largely track past it. It shares that advantage with its neighbours at the point, including Coral Beach and Hotel Riu Cancún.
Through the worst of the April–August window, the calm-water beaches at Punta Cancún and north of it routinely stay usable on days the southern strip is closed for raking. Treat that as strong odds rather than a guarantee: a big enough influx reaches everywhere, and every beachfront resort here rakes its sand daily.
