Why we picked it

If you rank Cancún resorts purely by how much water there is to play in, this one wins and it isn't close. Moon Palace The Grand has an actual waterpark — slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, splash pads for the little ones — on top of nine pools in The Grand section alone. Nothing else on the strip gives a family that much water without buying a separate day pass.

And it still does the thing this site cares most about: Grand Swim-Up Suites, where your terrace opens straight into the pool. They're big (around 795 sq ft), sleep four, and come with the Palace signature double whirlpool tub inside. A swim-up suite that a family of four can actually share is rare — that's the reason this mega-resort earns a spot on a list otherwise full of adults-only boutiques.

Booking The Grand also buys you the run of the whole Moon Palace complex — the Sunrise and Nizuc sections, including the FlowRider surf simulator and the big Wired arcade over at Sunrise. It doesn't work the other way around: Sunrise and Nizuc guests can't wander into The Grand.

Who it's for

✓ Stay here if…

  • You want the most water per dollar in Cancún — a full waterpark plus nine pools, all included.
  • You're traveling multigen and the group wants very different things from a vacation.
  • You want a swim-up suite the whole family can share, not an adults-only one.
  • A short transfer matters — it's one of the closest big resorts to the airport, roughly 15 minutes.

✕ Skip it if…

  • You want to walk out to bars and restaurants — this sits south of the Hotel Zone, so it's a 20–30 minute ride each way.
  • You want intimate. The Grand alone is 1,300+ rooms, and getting anywhere means a long walk or a shuttle.
  • You're traveling July–October and a clean beach is non-negotiable — sargassum hits this stretch. Read our sargassum season guide →
  • Hard-sell membership presentations would ruin your week — they're persistent at Palace properties.
