Breathless sits at Km 4.5, on the first leg of the Hotel Zone — the top bar of the strip's “7” shape, well before it pivots south at Punta Cancún. That puts it on the Bahía de Mujeres side, where the beach faces north across a bay sheltered by Isla Mujeres rather than out at the open Caribbean.

The payoff is calm, shallow, genuinely swimmable water. The trade is distance from the action: the Punta Cancún nightlife cluster is about 4.5 km down the boulevard — a short taxi, not a walk. Downtown Cancún, Mercado 28 and the ferry terminals are closer from here than from anywhere else on the strip.

Which way a beach faces is the single biggest predictor of how much sargassum lands on it — and Breathless has the good orientation. North-facing beaches on the Bahía de Mujeres side sit behind Isla Mujeres and off to the side of the Atlantic drift, so the rafts that arrive between roughly April and August hit the east-facing open-Caribbean beaches first and hardest.

In a bad week this stretch is usually still usable while the southern Hotel Zone is raking. It is not immune — nowhere on this coast is, and the state's cleanup crews and offshore barriers work the whole coastline in peak season — but if beach conditions are what you're optimising for, Km 4.5 is one of the safer bets in Cancún.
