Kukulcán
Zilara sits at Km 11.5, on one of the widest stretches of sand in the Hotel Zone. Worth being clear about this, because the two Cancún Hyatts are often assumed to be neighbours: Zilara is not at Punta Cancún — that's Ziva, about two kilometres north. Zilara is squarely on the east-facing Caribbean side.
The upside of being south of the point is width and quiet; the downside is that the nightlife cluster is now a taxi rather than a walk. La Isla Shopping Village is about a kilometre south, which is walkable. Airport, roughly 20 minutes.
Sargassum exposure
East-facing at Km 11.5 puts Zilara in the middle band. It sits far enough south of the Punta Cancún headland to lose the shelter that keeps Coral Beach and the north-side beaches clear, but north of the Km 14–20 stretch that takes the heaviest load between April and August.
The very wide beach here does help in one practical way: even when a band of sargassum comes ashore and the crews are working it, there's usually more usable dry sand left over than on a narrower stretch. Expect some bad days in peak season and plan the pools as the fallback.
