Two seasons, not four
Cancún really has two seasons. The dry season (roughly December to April) is the postcard version: sunny, low humidity, highs in the low-to-mid 80s°F (around 28–31°C), and calm, clear water. It's also the busiest and most expensive — this is high season.
The wet season (May to October) is hotter and much more humid, with short, heavy afternoon storms and warmer seas. It overlaps with hurricane season and the months sargassum is most likely. The upside: fewer crowds and noticeably lower prices. The shoulder weeks on either side — late April–May and November–early December — are where many travelers find the best balance.

The four things that move the needle
Weather & humidity
December through April is the most comfortable stretch — sunny, dry, and far less humid, with warm days and pleasant evenings. From May the heat and humidity ramp up and short afternoon thunderstorms become routine, clearing as fast as they arrive. The sea is warm enough to swim in all year.

The biggest crushes are Christmas–New Year, March spring break, and Easter week — busy beaches, packed restaurants, and top dollar. September and October are the quietest. For thinner crowds with good weather, target November–early December or the May shoulder.

Rates track demand closely. Expect the highest prices over the winter holidays and through the dry-season peak. The cheapest fares and resort rates land in September–October, with early May to mid-June a close second — warm weather at low-season pricing, just before the summer family rush.

Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1–November 30, peaking August–October (September most of all). A direct hit is uncommon, but it's worth travel insurance in those months.
