Why we picked it
Temptation gets written about for one reason — it's a topless-optional, 21-and-over party resort, and every review you'll find leads with that. Fine. But it's on this site for a reason nobody mentions: Km 3.5 is one of the best-protected beaches in Cancún. It sits deep inside Bahía de Mujeres, kilometres west of the Punta Cancún corner, which puts it about as far from the open Atlantic as a Cancún beachfront resort can get.
That matters if your dates land in sargassum season. The rafts that shut down the east-facing beaches south of the point largely track past the bay. You can book the loudest adults-only resort in the Hotel Zone and still be on calm, usually-clear water — a combination the marketing on either side never puts together.
The resort itself is 428 rooms and suites, all with a balcony or terrace, redesigned by Karim Rashid — so the look is glossy, curved and deliberately provocative rather than tropical. There are two swim-up bars, a nightclub called Bash, and Spa Rosé on site. It is not a quiet resort and does not try to be.

Where it sits on the Hotel Zone
Kukulcán
Temptation sits at Km 3.5, on the short northern arm of the Hotel Zone — the stretch that runs east from downtown along Bahía de Mujeres before the boulevard reaches Punta Cancún and turns south down the open Caribbean. Everything about the beach follows from that. The water is bay water: shallow, flat, and swimmable on days the surf-side beaches are unusable.
The trade-off isn't the sand, it's the shape of the coast. Bay water is flat and shallow rather than surf — boats moor off the beach here — so if you want waves, or the uninterrupted kilometres-long sweep you can walk for an hour, that's the southern stretch. Being close to downtown is the other half of the deal: the Puerto Juárez ferry to Isla Mujeres is minutes away, and downtown Cancún's non-resort restaurants are a short, cheap taxi rather than a 20-minute trip up the strip.
Sargassum exposure
Temptation shares the protected side of the peninsula with the Punta Cancún resorts, and sits even further inside the bay than they do. Its sand faces north into Bahía de Mujeres, shielded from the Atlantic by the headland and by Isla Mujeres across the water — so the rafts that pile onto the east-facing beaches through peak season largely pass it by.
Through the worst of the April–August window, the bay beaches routinely stay usable on days the southern strip is closed for raking. Treat that as strong odds rather than a promise: a large enough influx reaches the bay too, and every beachfront resort here rakes its sand daily regardless.
Worth being clear about what this does and doesn't buy you. It buys usable water in a bad season. It doesn't buy surf, and it doesn't buy the long unbroken shoreline of the southern strip — that's the trade the bay position makes.

Good to know
One naming trap worth knowing: The Tower by Temptation is a separate, newer adults-only property from the same brand and books as its own hotel. If you're comparing prices, make sure you're looking at the resort you mean.

- You want surf and a shoreline you can walk for miles. Bay water is flat by definition — head south for that.
- You want adults-only calm rather than adults-only party. Live Aqua or Le Blanc are the quiet end of the same category.
- You're at all unsure about the topless-optional element — it's the resort's whole identity, not a corner of it.
- You're traveling with anyone under 21. The policy is firm.
- You want a spa-and-fine-dining trip. That's a different resort entirely.
